Field Craft Labs/Software · Data · AI

Custom software, automation & AI for small businesses. Build once. Build right.

Designed and built by the senior engineer you actually talk to.

For the businesses that keep things running: contractors, home services, shops, and online sellers. Every project starts with a free 30-minute call, and you get a fixed quote before any work begins.

// Sound familiar?

The problems I get hired to fix

  • P-01Calls go to voicemail while everyone is on a job, and the lead calls the next company.
  • P-02The office types the same information into three different systems.
  • P-03Quotes take days to go out, so a faster competitor wins the work.
  • P-04The dashboard says one thing. The bank account says another. Nobody trusts the reports.
  • P-05The whole business runs on a spreadsheet that breaks when one person is out, or software you outgrew years ago.

If one of these sounds familiar, we should talk. Not sure what you need? That's normal. It's what the first call is for.

// Capabilities Index

Software & AI services

Here's what owners hire me for. Four capabilities, one job: get the systems that run your business working together, and put your numbers in one place.

01 / SOFTWARE

Custom Software Development

Working software in weeks. Web apps, internal tools, customer portals, quoting calculators, job trackers. If the business runs on a fragile spreadsheet or software you've outgrown, this is usually where we start. Scoped in a conversation, not by committee.

02 / INTEGRATION

System Integration & Automation

The software you already pay for, finally working together. I set up new systems correctly, connect your CRM, phones, forms, calendars, and accounting, and automate the repetitive data entry between them. No more retyping the same job into three systems.

03 / AI

AI Automation That Saves Hours

I automate high-volume routine work. Answering and routing calls and emails, drafting quotes, processing paperwork, writing end-of-day summaries. Every automation keeps a person in charge, with an approval step wherever a mistake would hurt.

04 / DATA

Analytics & Reporting Dashboards

One dashboard where the numbers agree. Which ads bring real customers and which bring bots, where leads come from, which jobs made money. Your ad accounts, phones, forms, and books, wired together into reports written in plain English.

// Who You're Hiring

How I work.

I'm Brandon, the engineer behind Field Craft Labs: a software engineer and solutions architect with over twelve years of experience building web applications, system integrations, and the data systems behind them. I'm based in the Chicago area, on-site across Chicagoland and remote nationwide.

Every job gets the same standard: understand the problem before writing code, use proven technology, and build it so any competent engineer could take it over. I never ship work I wouldn't run myself.

Field Craft Labs is small by design. One senior engineer owns your project end to end, so the person who scopes the work is the person who builds it, and the person who picks up the phone when something breaks. I take on a few projects at a time so each one gets full attention.

I'll also be honest about scope. If a two-week fix solves it, I won't sell you a six-month platform. If AI isn't the right tool, I'll say so. Everything you pay for is yours: source code, documentation, and the plan itself, with nothing that breaks when the engagement ends. Small businesses run on trust and referrals. So do I.

A good fit

  • Replacing a fragile spreadsheet with a real tool
  • Connecting systems that don't talk to each other
  • A customer or employee portal
  • Dashboards and reporting you can finally trust
  • Automating routine office work, with or without AI
  • Rescuing a system the last developer abandoned
  • Senior backup for an existing dev team

Probably not a fit

  • Platforms that need a large team from day one
  • Around-the-clock staffed operations
  • Projects where the cheapest hourly rate is the deciding factor

// Practical AI

Where AI actually helps, and where it doesn't.

Skip the AI strategy deck. What you need is a short list of the right places to use it, built carefully. Here's what that looks like.

AI-01

Find the Wins

A walkthrough of how work moves through your business, then a plain-English shortlist. Where AI helps, what it costs, and what isn't worth doing yet.

AI-02

Answers From Your Own Documents

An assistant that reads your price sheets, job history, and paperwork, and shows where each answer came from. The office manager stops being the bottleneck for every question.

AI-03

Built to Run Without Me

Your team learns to run and adjust everything I build, with checks that show when the AI is right and when it isn't. If it only works while I'm in the room, I didn't finish the job.

// How a project runs

Four phases, in writing, every time.

Same order on every project. You see cost and scope before I write a line of code.

01 / UNDERSTAND

Understand the problem

A call, then a structured review of your systems, workflows, and goals. I map what's fragile and where the real opportunity is.

02 / PROPOSAL

Scope & fixed quote

Everything in writing: scope, deliverables, cost, and timeline, at a fixed price.

03 / BUILD

Build in short cycles

Demos on a schedule from the first weeks. You review real progress as it happens instead of one big reveal at the end of the invoice.

04 / LAUNCH

Launch & support

Go-live, documentation, and training, with open items resolved before sign-off, not after. I stand behind the work.

// Who I work with

Industries I serve.

FLD

Contractors & Home Services

Lead tracking that shows which ads make the phone ring, quoting and scheduling tools that work from the cab of a truck, and AI that catches the calls your office can't. Designed around how field crews actually operate.

OPS

Local & Online Small Business

Shops, e-commerce sellers, and service companies. Automation that gives you your evenings back, order and inventory reporting you can act on, and custom tools sized for your business, not enterprise software with an enterprise invoice.

Teams That Want Senior Backup

Already have developers? I plug in for data pipelines, AI features, performance work, and the architecture calls that prevent expensive rewrites later. By the day, the week, or the project.

Tell me what's broken. Or what's next.

Thirty minutes, no sales pitch. Bring the problem costing you the most time. I'll tell you what I'd build first, what I wouldn't touch yet, and a realistic range for the investment. Have a tool in mind and nobody to build it? That counts too.

You'll leave the call with a rough plan and a price range.
